'They did it for Love' (The Outcasts)

'They did it for Love' is one of a series of large scale drawings as part of 'The Outcast' series.

The scene depicts what should be a gruesome aftermath but somehow manages to retain a sense of Romanticism, the arched branches hint towards the sun setting or rising. Here we see two old world vultures, one male one female perched gracefully upon the carcass of a recently killed antelope. Known as the cleaners of the desert the vulture plays a vital role in keeping the environment in which they live free from disease. At the tip of the trees are recently hatched vulture chicks awaiting their feed from the doting parents. At they base we see desert flowers blooming in the face of adversity and the scorpions sting contrasts with the delicacy of the petal leaf. Central to the base we see a reference to one of my sculptures 'The Beat and the Bone'
